Pharmacy Technician - BC Cancer Surrey

Work with BC Cancer’s pharmacy team and receive on-the-job training to specialize your skills. No previous oncology experience is needed. We provide in-house training for areas such as sterile compounding, OPD and Chemo IV Clinical Trials, Drug Access Navigator – you’ll have opportunities for specialty pharmacy roles including Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Trial Technician, and Omni Cell Technician. You’ll work to your full scope of practice with a friendly group of professionals in a small-scale hospital setting. Additionally, the BC Cancer pharmacy environment provides direct patient contact through the outpatient dispensary, for a full continuity of care experience.

What you’ll do:

• Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to a patient.
• Receive prescriptions (verbal and non-verbal) from practitioners and ensure that prescriptions are complete and authentic by performing duties such as verifying allergy status and/or demographics.
• Prepare and process prescriptions by performing duties such as entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging or re-packaging medications and compounding various sterile pharmaceutical products, including hazardous drugs, according to established procedures.
• Pre-package oral, liquid and topical medications into unit-of-use format.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions prepared by self or others by verifying order entries, and/or performing the final check of dispensed prescriptions.
• Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
• Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
• Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leave of absence by methods such as reviewing, translating and converting existing inpatient medication orders previously reviewed and approved by a pharmacist.
• Maintain accurate records such as medication verification and the results of quality assurance checks.
• Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock and narcotic records.
• Maintain inventory and wardstock levels.
• Fill wardstock and narcotic requisitions.
• Identify outdated drugs to be returned or destroyed by checking stock for lot expiry dates.
• Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order.
• Stock pharmaceuticals, labels, containers and glassware.
• Ensure safe disposal of hazardous drugs and supplies in accordance with established procedures and standards.
• Perform related clerical duties such as keyboarding, answering telephone, filing and maintaining medication and prescription records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring:

• Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts.
• Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within healthcare settings.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services contexts found in foundational documents.

Wage: $36.26 per hour.
