About the role

Icon has an excellent and growing reputation, ambitious plans and deep roots in the communities we work with. We are looking for someone who, at this important moment in Icon's history, can help make us more visible, more engaging and more culturally present, locally, regionally and nationally. Someone who sees a brilliant campaign, brand voice or social account and thinks: "We need someone who can write the copy, gather the data, update the website, create the content, build the campaign plan, collect the evidence, organise the assets and make sure the story is told properly.

Brand, Voice and Storytelling

  • Work with the Executive Director to refresh Icon’s brand, voice and storytelling in the lead-up to Icon’s 25th anniversary in 2027.
  • Help develop a distinctive public voice for Icon across audiences, participants, funders, partners, press and stakeholders.
  • Write clear, compelling copy and identify strong stories across Icon’s productions, creative engagement work, touring, early years theatre, community projects and organisational activity.
  • Put in place simple, practical systems to help the team capture content, quotes, images, stories, data and moments of impact.

Campaigns, Audiences and Digital

  • Plan and deliver focused marketing campaigns for Icon’s productions, touring work, creative engagement programmes and public events.
  • Develop and deliver campaign plans, schedules and materials, including key messages, target audiences, timelines, digital and print assets, listings, newsletters, website copy, social content and partner toolkits.
  • Work with external venues, touring partners, co-producers and collaborators to coordinate campaign activity, share assets and maximise audience reach.
  • Support audience development locally, regionally and nationally, helping to grow ticket sales, participant recruitment, project sign-ups, stakeholder engagement, newsletter subscribers and digital reach.
  • Lead Icon’s social media and digital communications, making our channels feel active, engaging, connected to our community and culturally alive.
  • Manage website updates, e-newsletters and digital content, using analytics and audience insight to improve activity over time.

Content Creation and Commissioning

  • Create regular hands-on content from inside Icon’s rehearsal rooms, youth theatres, community projects, productions, events and everyday organisational life.
  • Film, photograph, write and edit content for social media, newsletters, website, press, fundraising and stakeholder communications.
  • Brief and coordinate photographers, filmmakers, designers and other creative freelancers to produce high-quality campaign, content and impact materials.
  • Work sensitively and ethically with participants, young people, communities and artists, ensuring stories are told with care, consent and integrity.
  • Manage practical evaluation and impact systems across Icon’s productions, participatory programmes and funded projects.
  • Support project teams and external evaluators to collect, organise and report evaluation material consistently and on time, including participant feedback, audience data, attendance information, demographic data, case studies, quotes and project outcomes.
  • Support public and community engagement events linked to Icon’s productions, projects, campaigns and stakeholder activity.
  • Keep marketing assets, evaluation materials, audience data, project information and content libraries organised and accessible.
  • Contribute to team meetings, project planning and organisational development, bringing ideas generously, testing what works and learning from results.

Experience Required

  • Experience in marketing, communications, digital content or audience development within a theatre, arts, cultural, charity or mission-led organisation.
  • Experience planning and delivering marketing or communications campaigns across digital and non-digital channels.
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital engagement, with experience growing or improving channels, audiences, mailing lists or online communities.
  • Basic design and video editing skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging assets for social media, newsletters, websites and simple print/digital materials.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities, deadlines, assets, contacts, data and information.
  • Confidence working with evaluation material, audience data or impact evidence, and using it to support reporting, storytelling or decision-making.
  • Good judgement and sensitivity when telling stories about people, communities and social impact.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role will require travel to project locations across Medway, Sheppey, Kent and beyond, some of which are not easily accessible by public transport.
  • Experience writing press releases, media copy, stakeholder updates, funding copy or impact reports.
  • Experience using digital tools such as website CMS platforms, email marketing platforms, social media scheduling tools, analytics platforms or CRM systems.
  • Experience using design, photo or video editing tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Premiere Pro or similar.
  • Experience briefing or managing creative freelancers, such as photographers, filmmakers, designers, evaluators or press support.
  • Experience working with venues, touring partners, co-producers or external marketing teams on campaign delivery.
