About the role

What you'll be doing

Join the Engineers' Control Team within the Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST) as a Mechanical Fitter, playing a vital role in keeping the UK Parliament running safely, efficiently and around the clock.

Working across the iconic Parliamentary Estate, you'll respond to building services emergencies, carry out fault finding and maintenance on critical mechanical systems, and help ensure essential services remain operational in one of the UK's most unique and historic working environments.

You'll receive comprehensive training and ongoing development while working within a supportive 24/7 team, with the opportunity to build your skills across a wide range of mechanical building services.

Generous annual leave starting at 30 days and increasing to 35 after one full working year.

Shift Work

The average gross working hours for this role are 43 hours 15 minutes per week (37 net hours, plus a 15-minute handover per shift).

You will work a 12-hour rotating shift pattern across a 28-day rota.

A 30% Shift Disturbance Allowance is payable in addition to basic salary.

This reflects the specialist nature of the role and the contractual requirement to work a 24/7, 365-day operation, including weekends and bank holidays.

The allowance is attached to the role, not the individual.

Hold an NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in a mechanical or building services discipline.

Build your expertise in maintaining and fault-finding across a range of mechanical building services, including steam, heating, ventilation, hot water and drainage systems.

Develop your knowledge of planned maintenance, health and safety legislation, and water hygiene standards within a complex operational environment.

Thrive as part of a collaborative team, responding to emergencies and supporting contractors while maintaining high safety and technical standards.
