The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be a proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. The role requires ownership of problems and the ability to resolve them effectively. As part of a collaborative design engineering team, the individual will provide guidance and support to engineers and test technicians, contributing to the development of innovative and high-quality products.
Key Responsibilities- Manage multiple new product development projects in alignment with company and market requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies to enhance product innovation.
- Apply creative and technical expertise to design electro-mechanical mechanisms.
- Collaborate with project teams to design and develop products that meet client specifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, including safety and validation requirements.
- Produce accurate and detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using SolidWorks.
- Lead design reviews and ensure customer and supplier liaison for successful project delivery.
- Oversee design change control through authorized systems, such as Vault.
- Take products from concept to completion, ensuring cost, weight, and complexity are optimized.
- Conduct failure investigations and implement resolutions for customer issues.
- Contribute to engineering change notices (ECNs) and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Supervise and mentor mechanical engineers and test technicians.
- Support the assembly process, ensuring designs meet specifications and resolving issues on-site when necessary.
- Promote a safe working environment and uphold the company's standards and values.
- Engage in professional development through workshops, publications, and networking.
- Undertake additional duties as required by the Engineering Manager.
- Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of product design and development experience.
- Proven track record in new product development within a design engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience working collaboratively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to develop product specifications.
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks for creating 2D and 3D CAD models.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, assembly techniques, and tolerancing for complex assemblies.
- Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools such as Ansys.
- Skilled in Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and process routing.
- Analytical abilities to evaluate stress, fatigue, shock, and vibration through calculations and simulations.
- Knowledge of cost reduction strategies while maintaining manufacturability and performance standards.
- Excellent communication skills for preparing design specifications and technical reports.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Valid UK driving license.
