Welcome to Shenfield! This impressive first opinion practice in the heart of popular Brentwood in Essex is looking for an additional veterinary surgeon to join their experienced clinical team. Shenfield has a large caseload of surgical and medical cases. The role requires a vet confident in all routine general practice (GP) surgery. The practice features ultrasound and K‑Laser facilities. You will be part of a highly experienced team with multiple registered veterinary nurses and support colleagues, and a part‑time senior vet. A dedicated regional manager and a regional head vet provide clinical and managerial support.
Working hours and flexibility
The position offers flexible options: either a full‑time vet over four days, or two part‑time vets, with a single full day of sole charge. The role includes a 1:4 Saturday rotation, a 1:8 Wanstead Hospital Sunday rotation, 1–2 bank holidays per year, and inclusion in the last‑resort on‑call rotation.
Onboarding
During an initial induction period you will spend a day in hospital to meet the team and become familiar with the surroundings.
Responsibilities
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examine all pets presented and make management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence, and GVG protocols.
- Perform GP surgery on cases as appropriate and within personal competence and limitations of overnight care.
- Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure pets’ histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
- Refer cases in a timely manner when unable to undertake a case, first to a GVG Hospital.
- Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
What we offer
The salary band for this position depends on prior experience and allows room for growth: £45,000 to £72,000 (full‑time equivalent based on 40 hours per week).
