About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Social Worker – Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join Halton Council’s dedicated and supportive mental health team.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of adults with complex mental health needs, while working within a professional environment committed to excellence in care and statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Mental Health Act assessments and make informed decisions regarding detention or alternative care pathways
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including healthcare professionals, emergency services, and community support networks
- Offer specialist advice and support to colleagues on mental health legislation and procedures
- Ensure full compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Manage complex caseloads, ensuring individuals and their families receive appropriate interventions and care
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and reports in line with statutory and local authority requirements
- Contribute to the ongoing development of service policies and best practices
Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
- Recognised AMHP qualification (Approved Mental Health Professional)
- Substantial experience conducting Mental Health Act assessments
- In-depth knowledge of relevant mental health legislation and guidance
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure and in high-risk situations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (must be on the Update Service)
