Reserving Technical Team .
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Reserving Technical Analyst to join the Reserving Technical team at Sompo International.
The successful candidate will support and work closely with both the Reserving Function and various other Functions (Finance, IT, Claims) with a strong focus on data management, system development, and in-house reserving tools.
In this critical role, you will lead the execution and validation of our reserving systems and data outputs, ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of our reserve calculations.
You will play a key role in supporting an insightful Reserving analysis process that brings value to the wider business.

What you’ll be doing
- Reserving Technical Function
- Contribute to enhancing the design, development, and maintenance of our in-house Sompo Reserving Platform reserving system and tools.
- Execute data controls and validation processes.
- Collaborate with actuaries to maintain, enhance, and implement robust reserving methodologies within SRP workbook.
- Quarterly Technical Reserving Process and Off Quarter Projects
- Work within the Reserving Technical team to manage and compile the data sets used in the reserving process.
- Ensure that data queries and issues are duly recorded, effectively resolved, and clearly communicated.
- Carry out and enhance where appropriate quarterly reserving data controls and validation processes.
- Work with the Reserving Function to refine reserving segmentations and update reserving parameters as required.
- Execute and reconcile GLSU topsides in collaboration with the Finance Department.
- Sustain and optimize the central reconciliation process for SRP for both SQL and Power BI interface, while actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintain and produce quarterly Solvency II report for UK regulatory reporting.
- Res Q SME supporting ACE teams which includes quarterly roll-forwards and checks, enhancing efficiency, hosting Res Q working party.
- Produce a range of core and regulatory reports to support the reserving process.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with Technical Accounting and IT to investigate and resolve observed anomalies related to the SRP data.
- Effectively communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop relationships within the Actuarial function and beyond the Actuarial function with Risk, Claims, Finance, Ceded Reinsurance and Financial Planning & Analysis and leverage these relationships to enhance an understanding of Sompo International’s business and processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in P&C insurance reserving, with a strong focus on data management and system development.
- Strong programming skill in SQL.
- Be approachable to a range of stakeholders and flexible to work under time pressure to business needs, particularly around quarter end close deadlines.
- Proven experience with ETL, data warehousing, version control, and visualization tools (e. g. Power BI).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and debug complex SQL stored procedures.
- Highly organised with the ability to think critically and independently.
- Proficiency in actuarial reserving software and tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, coding languages etc. as required by the evolution of the reserve platform.
