A reputable Managed Service provider based in Manchester with over 25 years of experience operating in their industry with a diverse range of clients across various sectors including insurance, retail, and gaming is seeking a 3rd Line Wintel Engineer to join their dynamic and growing team of 25 Wintel Engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and maintaining computer systems to agreed service levels.
- Managing incidents and problems appropriately within agreed service levels.
- Creating and performing authorised changes to customer environments, attending CABs.
- Performing root cause analysis on reoccurring incidents.
- Acting as a technical escalation point for major incidents related to the service delivery from the datacentre and customer sites.
- Scheduled patching of Virtualised environments.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement programmes (SIPs / technical roadmaps) of all technology platforms across the datacentre.
- Assisting with acceptance into service, understanding the operational support requirements for all new implementations and enhancements/upgrades.
- Engaging with third party vendors (such as VMware, Microsoft or Citrix) and elevating when necessary.
- Contributing to delivering team performance.
- Participating in an on-call technical escalation process outside of UK business hours.
- Ensuring technical documentation is completed and updated to professional standards.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a track record of working with a datacentre technology stack and an appreciation of support and service transition. Experience of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple customers and projects is essential. The candidate ideally has experience of working in a large solution provider with a rapidly expanding customer base.
Skills:
- Detailed technical knowledge of MS Directory Services, VMWare, Hyper-V and storage technologies backed with practical experience in a corporate environment preferably serving customers.
- Technical knowledge of virtualisation technologies (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi, DRS, vMotion, HA, SRM, SCVMM, Hyper-V).
- Appropriate certifications in core technology platforms (MS, VMware and Hyper-V).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex, technical, multi-site and multi-disciplinary issues.
- Strong background with network, compute and storage technologies in large-scale deployments.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience providing support to enterprise level clients.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Extensive technical experience with Microsoft Windows server operating systems.
- An understanding of Citrix technologies (XenApp, XenDesktop, Netscaler, App-V, AppSense, CAG, CSG, EdgeSite, Director, PVS/MCS, Thin Clients).
- An understanding of Microsoft Exchange 2010 to 2016 (including Exchange online).
- Experience of public cloud platforms and administration of them.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred.
- ITIL qualification or awareness of the ITIL processes.
