Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Development
About the role

As part of our Design Engineering team you will design a wide range of products ensuring compliance with client specifications, legislative requirements, quality and HSE standards. You will be required to work independently or as part of a team to develop new or existing products that meet the mechanical technical requirements of form, fit and function. You will have a professional approach allowing you to successfully interface with customers and suppliers to ensure activities are completed to meet or improve program, cost and quality expectations.
Successful applicants will be educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. You will also have an analytical approach and good organisational and planning skills. Key Responsibilities:
- To be a Technical Signatory for checking various engineering deliverables.
- To provide a professional mechanical engineering service to the business and so interface with customers and suppliers.
- To ensure work is completed efficiently to project timescales and to acceptable standards.
- To promote value engineering activity and cost reduction at all levels.
- To support development of Engineering methods and capability.
- To provide the technical input for engineering purchase specifications.
- To generate technical reports, calculations and design schemes.
- To check and approve design schemes, customer calculations, subcontract technical submissions.
- To organise and attend engineering/project meetings and reviews as necessary.
- To support creation of engineering design guides, rules and tools.
- To design overall product architecture, subassemblies and/or components to meet specification and cost targets.
- To provide checking for engineering deliverables.
- To interpret and implement engineering specifications and standards to ensure compliance.
- To perform concept and detail design work applying acoustic, dynamic, mechanical, and thermo-fluid principles.
- To participate in research and development activities.
- To manage project timescales and achieve or improve deadlines.
- To provide progress status reports to line management.
- To provide an engineering resource for other departments.
- To provide technical point of contact direct to the customer and sub-contract resource.
Supervision and Responsibilities:
- Take on Role as lead Engineer on larger contracts and oversee team of Design Engineers.
- Responsible to the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for all aspects of the mechanical design and integrity of the company’s range of products.
- To lead by example on the mechanical discipline and operate to the highest engineering professional code of conduct.
- To identify and implement improvement initiatives within the department and the business as a whole.
- To liaise with External design resource and provide principal point of contact for technical queries.
Requirements:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree.
- Experience in a responsible mechanical engineering position.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Good understanding of fabrication design details.
- Experience of working to structural design codes.
- Familiar with the requirements of the Construction Design and Management regulations.
- Commitment to continued professional development.
Out of hours, overseas and offshore working may be necessary from time to time.
