Principle Accountability

The Senior Manager, Philanthropic Partnerships is a new role within the Development Team that will bring a combination of high-quality relationship management skills, a focus on new markets and the ability to write funding proposals in support of CAMFED's Global Fundraising Strategy. Working from within the CAMFED International team in the UK, and in close collaboration with colleagues across the consortium, the role-holder will play a key role in fundraising towards CAMFED's strategic aims with individuals, trusts and foundations.

The Senior Manager, Philanthropic Partnerships will join a fast-paced, goal-oriented global development team at CAMFED International, working in coordination to deliver on an ambitious fundraising strategy and deploying a world-class approach to partnership management. They will contribute to a team that mixes laughs and learning with hard work and results and where professional growth and wellbeing is a priority.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Portfolio management
  • Identify, manage and maintain a dynamic portfolio of individual, trust and foundation prospects capable of making multi-year gifts of between £50,000 - £1 million.
  • Represent the organisation with external partners, board members, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Make donor visits and participate in events (in person or virtual), and communicate by telephone and in writing with prospective donors in order to assess their philanthropic interest.
  • Develop compelling and professionally-presented funding proposals and concept notes, enlisting the help of colleagues in the wider development team, communications and finance, to provide sufficient levels of detail for the intended audience.
  • Cultivate existing partnerships to develop those relationships with a view to maintaining and increasing their level of giving, and creating multi-year partnerships.
  • Engage with colleagues in CAMFED's global team, always acting in coordination with the rest of the Development function and in line with the Global Fundraising Strategy.
  • Ensure closure and satisfactory settlement and recording of gifts and commitments to support organisational understanding and knowledge-share.
  • Uphold a gold standard of stewardship which recognises and celebrates the generosity of all of CAMFED's donors.
  • Maintain accurate Salesforce records in accordance with CAMFED's fundraising processes and structures.
  • Market-specific lead
    • Inform and co-design market-specific strategy including on resourcing and decision making based on data and experience.
    • Execute and deliver on market-specific strategy, that is developed working with the Chief Development Officer and Associate Directors of Development.
    • Manage and triage work and requests that sit alongside the delivery of a market-specific strategy, bringing in other members of the team as needed.
    • Coordinate and chair meetings on market-specific strategy, and delivery in specific countries eg Switzerland.
    • Communicate and manage engagement with the board of market-specific fundraising entities eg Switzerland.
    • Provide oversight and support for the delivery of the strategy.
  • Team development
    • Model leadership within the team including upholding team values, culture, appropriate discretion and personal brand.
    • Join colleagues across the global team to share in and learn from the culture of professional philanthropy at CAMFED.
    • Provide mentorship to junior members of the team particularly in what good relationship management looks like.
    • Support a motivational environment where people are challenged, developed, encouraged and supported to achieve outstanding results.
    • Work collaboratively across the office fostering coordinated teamwork and support between teams.
    • Show good judgement in time management and prioritisation.

    Person Specification

    • Experience in a relevant role in the International Development sector, including a focus on fundraising and relationship management.
    • Proven track record in fundraising five and six figure gifts from a range of philanthropic donors including individuals, trusts and foundations.
    • Leadership skills, including an ability to take decisions and make recommendations to senior colleagues.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a particular ability to write compelling and accessible proposals for a range of donor audiences.
    • Organised and responsive, with a proven ability to progress multiple workstreams, prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proactive and resourceful, with an ability to take initiative and develop solutions to challenges as they arise.
    • Reflective, with a commitment to learning and professional development.
    • Experience of developing and mentoring others with empathy and with a focus on promoting wellbeing.
    • Commitment to and passion for CAMFED's values, mission and vision, as well as education, social justice and gender equity.
