About CAMFED
CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty in Africa through the education of girls and the empowerment of young women. Founded in 1993, CAMFED has established a strong presence in several African countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, and Tanzania.
The organization believes that education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for social change. By providing financial support, mentorship, and resources, CAMFED enables girls from marginalized communities to attend school and complete their education.
CAMFED’s core activities include:
- Financial Support: Offering scholarships and grants to cover school fees, uniforms, and learning materials.
- Mentorship Programs: Connecting students with local women leaders who provide guidance and support throughout their educational journey.
- Community Engagement: Working closely with families and communities to promote the value of girls’ education and foster a supportive environment.
- Advocacy: Campaigning for policy changes that prioritize girls’ education and gender equality at national and international levels.
With a vision of a world where every girl can learn, lead, decide, and thrive, CAMFED empowers young women to become agents of change in their communities. The organization has supported over 2 million girls to go to school and has created a network of over 150,000 young women leaders.
Through its innovative approach, CAMFED not only transforms individual lives but also contributes to broader societal change, breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. The organization continues to expand its reach and impact, striving to ensure that no girl is left behind in her pursuit of education.
