Our service is growing as we further embed Family Group Decision Making at the heart of our practice with families and increase our Family Group Conference offer. The Family Group Conferencing team offers Family Group Conferences to families to support them and build family networks. FGC Coordinators are responsible for delivering high quality Family Group Conferences to enable families to make plans to keep children safe. They will offer support, training and advise partner professionals to fully be involved in the Family Group Conferencing Process and embed the child’s plan in all other children’s social care plans. Our approach is rooted in restorative and relational practice, fostering trust, mutual respect, and meaningful relationships with children, families, and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate and review Family Group Conferences and reviews in Bradford, responding appropriately to the needs of individual families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Complete discussions in line with the entitlement for Family Group Conferencing and maintain appropriate records that will be shared with families and partner professionals.
  • Exercise a high degree of independence to initiate and coordinate Family Group Conferences, preparing families and professionals to come together to develop and agree safe plans for children.
  • Convene Family Group Conferences that empower families and ensure they can be fully involved in safe decision-making and planning for their children.
  • Ensure the Family Group Conferencing model adheres to the Bradford Children’s and Families Trust model of delivery.
  • Undertake all administrative duties associated with a Family Group Conference and review, including facilitating the conference, agreeing, writing up and circulating the family plan in line with trust policies.
  • Build effective professional relationships with Children’s Social Care to embed a high-quality Family Group Conferencing service across the district.

Qualifications

  • Up-to-date continuous and recent experience working directly with children and parents as part of a multi-disciplinary team to plan and support change in families.
  • Experience convening Family Group Conferences and/or chairing meetings involving families, children and young people.
  • Completion of Family Group Conference facilitator training through an accredited organisation (desirable).
  • A relevant Level 3 professional qualification related to working with children, young people and parents; evidence of ongoing training and CDP.
  • Ability to apply anti-discriminatory practice and approaches in day-to-day interactions to challenge bias, prejudice and intolerance.
  • Ability to work independently, manage own workload, and work in an unsupported environment such as at children/young people’s homes.
  • Effective communication and engagement with children, young people, and families; building trust, empathy and using clear language appropriate to age, ability, culture and personality.
  • Summarising, explaining options, consulting and involving children, young people, families and partner professionals in decisions and courses of action.
  • Assimilate and apply complex and detailed information and relay it to service users and other professionals.
