About The Job
Boeing Defence UK System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our collaborative environment, dedicated to ensuring the safety of complex systems.
As a BDUK System Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our sustainment programmes for UK defence, applying rigorous safety engineering tasks to Boeing products and services that are critical to our national security.
This is an excellent opportunity for early‑career or established engineers to step into a safety engineering career pathway while developing your technical skills.
In this role, you will
- Learn to utilise industry‑leading tools and techniques for system safety and hazard analysis to define safety requirements that meet demanding regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders to manage safety throughout the product and service lifecycle.
- Assist with the development of safety arguments and safety cases for assurance and certification activities using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims Argument Evidence (CAE).
- Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or a non‑US equivalent qualification directly related to the work statement.
- UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
- Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- A background in a safety‑critical and regulated environment (e. g., aerospace, defence, rail, automotive).
- Familiarity with common safety standards (e. g., Def Stan 00‑056, MIL‑STD‑882E) and the application of safety analysis methods such as Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Bowtie analysis.
- The ability to plan and execute tasks to achieve timescales and costs.
- Good interpersonal skills to ensure effective team working and an appropriate working relationship with external customers.
- Proficiency in the use of general office IT tools, such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Strong technical communication skills.
