An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Rail Plant Engineer to join a well-established team based at a busy Stratford depot. This role is ideal for candidates with experience working on Rail-Road Vehicles (RRVs), though applications are also welcomed from experienced heavy plant engineers with strong mechanical and hydraulic knowledge who are looking to transition into the rail sector.
The role involves the maintenance, repair, and inspection of a range of specialised rail plant and on-track equipment, supporting key infrastructure and rail projects across the region. Job Overview- Depot-based role working on a range of specialised rail plant and on-track machinery
- Focus on maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of Rail-Road Vehicles (RRVs) and associated equipment
- Ensure all rail plant meets safety, compliance, and operational standards
- Opportunity to work on diverse and technically interesting machinery used across key rail infrastructure projects
- Ideal for engineers with RRV experience, but open to heavy plant engineers with strong mechanical/hydraulic skills
- Work as part of an experienced and supportive engineering team
- Ongoing training and development available to support progression into rail-specific work
- Proven experience as a Plant Engineer, Rail Plant Engineer, or Heavy Plant Fitter
- Experience working on Rail-Road Vehicles (RRVs) is highly desirable but not essential
- Strong mechanical knowledge
- NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent qualification (preferred but not essential)
- Familiarity with LOLER, PUWER, and other relevant safety regulations (advantageous but not essential)
- Ability to diagnose and repair faults efficiently and accurately
- Strong commitment to health & safety and working to high standards
- Full UK driving licence required (PTS certification is a plus, but not essential)
- Willingness to learn and undergo further training for rail-specific equipment
- £18.50-£19.50 an hour dependant on experience
- 40 hour working week (7:30-16:30, 1-hour unpaid lunch break)
- Overtime available at weekends and evenings paid at £23.00-£24.00 an hour
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays
