The Role: To keep up with a growing pipeline of work, we are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Through Life Support team. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team focused on delivering support to existing and new Austal customers. This is a full-time position where you will play a role in the coordination, development and delivery of design and engineering activities. The role will also focus on the development of Austal OEM Electrical systems and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead: Lead the development of Austal electrical upgrade and modification packages and electrical system development.
  • Development of Austal OEM electrical and power systems
  • Management of electrical obsolescence issues
  • Support: Provide specialist electrical engineering support to projects
  • Vessel control and automation systems
  • Ongoing maintenance and upgrade support for in-service vessels
  • Warranty-related investigations and rectifications
  • Coordination: Define scope, plan tasks, and manage the delivery of electrical design activities, including power distribution, control and communication systems
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to understand project requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all electrical designs comply with classification society rules, maritime regulations, and Austal’s quality and safety standards
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to and foster a culture of continuous learning and development.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
  • Experience in marine, offshore, defence, or heavy engineering environments
  • Experience with power generation and distribution systems
  • Experience supporting in-service vessels, refits, or upgrades desirable
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation
  • 3+ years experience in a similar role
