Time Commitment:

Support Your Local Hospice as an IPU Ward Assistant Volunteer
We're looking for caring, reliable volunteers to support our Inpatient Unit team with a range of practical tasks.
As an IPU Ward Assistant Volunteer, you'll help the ward run smoothly by supporting with stock, equipment, patient rooms and general ward organisation. You'll work alongside our clinical team to help maintain a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors.
No previous healthcare experience is essential. You'll receive the training and support you need to feel confident in your role.
What Youโll Be Doing
You'll provide:
- Practical support to the clinical team with day-to-day activities on the Inpatient Unit
- Rotation and replenishment of stock
- Organisation and maintenance of storage areas
- Cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment in line with hospice procedures
- Restocking clinical and patient care supplies
- Support to keep patient areas safe, tidy and free from hazards
- Making and changing beds as required
- Preparing patient rooms for new admissions
- Support to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients
- Reporting any concerns, observations or feedback to clinical staff
- Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers to support the smooth running of the ward

- Are comfortable working within clearly defined volunteer boundaries
- Can give a regular commitment and let us know if you are unavailable
- Are willing to complete our required training and induction
- Are willing to follow Ashgate Hospice policies, procedures and values
- Have an understanding of, or interest in, hospice and palliative care (desirable but not essential)

Important Information
- Volunteers must be aged 16 or over
- All volunteers are required to attend:
- Voluntary Statutory Training (3 hours)
- Ashgate Hospice Induction (3 hours)
- Local role-specific training will be provided
- Confidentiality around patient and hospice information is essential
- This role will require a Standard DBS to be completed
