Support Your Local Community as a Volunteer Driver

As a Volunteer Driver, you’ll be part of a friendly team supporting Ashgate Hospice’s presence across local events and community activities. You’ll play an important role in ensuring equipment, materials, resources and monetary donations are transported safely and efficiently, helping events run smoothly. You’ll also support the team on-site, contributing to a warm and welcoming presence in the community. Every contribution helps raise awareness and generate vital funds to support specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people and families across North Derbyshire.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive hospice vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and resources to and from local events
  • Support the safe loading and unloading of stock, displays, and event equipment
  • Help set up and pack down event stalls or information stands
  • Collection and delivery of fundraising resources and donations from various sites including local businesses and retail shops
  • Assist the team on-site to ensure events run smoothly and efficiently
  • Offer a friendly and helpful approach when interacting with the public where appropriate
  • Help ensure vehicles are kept clean, tidy, and ready for use
  • Preparing vehicles for use, including:
    • Ensuring vehicles are clean and presentable
    • Carrying out basic checks (such as tyres, fluids, lights, and overall condition)
    • Making sure vehicles are equipped with the necessary materials and documentation

Important Information

  • Volunteers must be aged 21 or over (for insurance purposes)
  • All volunteers are required to attend:
    • Voluntary Statutory Training (3 hours)

  • Confidentiality around patient and hospice information is essential
