Assocaite Director Electrical & ICA Engineer - Water sector

Access Talent Group are currently working with an established engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Associate Director – Electrical & ICA Engineer.

This is a senior technical and leadership position, offering the opportunity to lead electrical and instrumentation, control and automation (ICA) design teams across complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

You will work on major programmes supporting critical UK infrastructure, providing technical leadership from concept and design through to construction and operational support.

The role will also provide opportunities to contribute to international projects and work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The position would suit a Chartered Electrical Engineer with significant experience leading electrical and ICA design teams within a consultancy or complex industrial/process environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will take responsibility for the technical delivery, leadership and development of the Electrical & ICA team, including:
  • Lead and direct Electrical & ICA engineers delivering technical design packages across complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage team workloads, resources, budgets and programme requirements to ensure delivery against key project milestones.
  • Provide technical leadership and review of electrical design deliverables, including:
  • Single Line Diagrams
  • Cable Block Diagrams
  • Load Schedules
  • MCC specifications
  • Control philosophies
  • Provide technical input into multidisciplinary project designs and ensure electrical requirements are effectively integrated with other engineering disciplines.
  • Work closely with clients, project managers, operational teams and technical specialists to develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Senior and Principal Engineers.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance standards across electrical and ICA design activities.
  • Work with UK and international engineering teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Provide technical input into bids, tenders and proposals.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvements in engineering design and delivery.
  • Support the growth and development of the regional Electrical & ICA team and wider technical network.
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex engineering problems, using independent judgement to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Support wider team leadership and development within the regional engineering business.

About You

You will be an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong technical background and proven leadership experience within a consultancy, industrial or process engineering environment.

You should have

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Proven experience leading or directing Electrical & ICA engineering design teams.
  • Significant experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and their application to complex infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design standards, specifications and industry best practice.
  • Experience working with client-specific design standards and relevant industry guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical direction on complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative approach to working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience mentoring and developing senior engineering professionals.
  • Technical Experience

Experience in the following areas would be particularly valuable

  • Electrical design for water, wastewater or industrial/process facilities.
  • WIMES and water industry design standards.
  • HAZOP and design safety reviews.
  • Lightning protection and risk assessment.
  • Earthing and bonding.
  • DSEAR and ATEX requirements.
  • MCCs and electrical equipment.
  • Control systems and network architecture.
  • Electrical integration with ICA and process engineering systems.
  • Water industry experience is desirable but not essential. However, significant experience within an industrial or process engineering environment is essential.
  • Leadership & Business Development
  • At Associate Director level, you will also contribute to the wider growth of the engineering business.

This will include

  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identifying new opportunities within the water and wider infrastructure markets.
  • Providing technical input into bids and proposals.
  • Building and developing the regional Electrical & ICA capability.
  • Supporting recruitment, mentoring and professional development.
  • Promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Working collaboratively with UK and international teams to develop new opportunities and innovative engineering solutions.
