Quick overview

Ben Lee/WTML

Woods and trees are essential.

For people. For wildlife. For life.

That’s why we’re here.

Young change-makers like you are at the heart of our mission to protect, restore and create woodlands that thrive. If you’re ready to make a real impact on the health of woods, trees and our planet, you’re in the right place.

What is our mission?

Philip Formby/WTML

We are the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity.

Our vision is a world where woods and trees thrive for people and nature.

We protect

We fight to protect woods and trees, preventing the loss of irreplaceable habitat, nature and carbon stores for a healthier future for everyone

We restore

We bring damaged ancient woods back to life, restoring irreplaceable ecosystems to improve landscape resilience so that nature and people can thrive.

We create

We create quality native woods and plant native trees to benefit nature, climate and people now and for the future.

What makes us special?

Philip Formby/WTML

Joining us means joining a team of passionate, determined and dedicated people who make it their mission to stand up for trees.

We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. And you can help us achieve it.

Work in some of the UK’s most stunning woodlands, inspire others to plant trees, be a conservation champion, campaign for policy change or help raise the money to allow us to continue our vital work creating havens for wildlife.

Whatever you do, you’ll be part of something special.

What positions do we offer?

We’re committed to offering new routes to working at the Woodland Trust. Our entry level funded opportunities and apprenticeships are a great way to start your career and gain valuable industry experience.

We’re currently growing the number and range of apprenticeships we offer so that you can earn while you learn. Apprentice opportunities can range across various job functions from Human Resources, Data Analysis and Business Administration to Ecology and Forestry.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Follow a work-based training programme leading to an industry recognised qualification
  • Join a cohort of apprentices undertaking apprenticeships from Level 2 to Level 7 (GCSE to Masters Degree
  • Spend 20% of your week off-the-job training to allow you to complete the apprenticeship
  • Follow a learning journey with possible progression through various different career pathways

Youth Advocate Volunteer Role

Aged 16–25? Passionate about nature and climate? This opportunity is for you.

At the Woodland Trust, we believe young people are central to tackling the climate crisis—but we also know there aren’t enough opportunities for you to get involved in nature-based action. That’s why we’ve created a flexible volunteer role designed just for you.

As a Youth Advocate, you’ll help shape what we do for woods, people, and the planet. This is a light-touch, ad hoc role with no minimum time commitment. We’ll simply reach out when opportunities come up—things like consultation meetings, learning sessions, events, and other ways you can make your voice heard.

Who can apply?
Anyone aged 16–25, based in the community (online role).
