This is an exciting chance to take on a key portfolio underwriting position within a successful and growing business, where you will play a central role in supporting our people and delivering for our customers. As a Senior Motor Portfolio Underwriter within Zurich UK, Retail, you will work closely with the UK Regional Casualty Manager to help shape and execute our commercial plans and strategies. You will bring strong Motor underwriting expertise, acting as a technical referral point when required, while also contributing to the ongoing digitisation of our underwriting processes. In this role, you will be instrumental in providing data-driven insights into the Motor portfolio’s performance, helping to manage both the profile and the mix of business to maintain a sustainable, balanced and future-ready portfolio.

What will you be doing?

  • Using your technical underwriting expertise to analyse risk, address complex technical matters and interpret key underwriting and insurance performance indicators.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across the wider underwriting community, alongside functions such as Central Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Pricing and Risk Engineering.
  • Supporting the delivery of commercial plans, including implementing the Motor action plan and driving growth across targeted areas and markets.
  • Evaluating portfolio performance on a monthly and quarterly basis, identifying trends and making well-considered recommendations.
  • Maintaining and enhancing operational reporting suites to ensure robust data and oversight for effective performance management.
  • Undertaking case underwriting where required and engaging directly with brokers and customers.
  • Supporting audit activities, including Ad Hoc Spot Checks on Regional Motor business.
  • Contributing to a collaborative team environment focused on delivering for customers, colleagues, shareholders and the communities we serve.

  • An experienced and respected Motor underwriter with strong risk analysis skills and the ability to make sound, timely underwriting decisions.
  • Someone who can draw meaningful insights from data and approach challenges with a positive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Strong analytical capability, including good working knowledge of Power BI and confidence handling complex data sets in Excel.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling effective collaboration both independently and within a team environment.
  • Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A consistent customer-focused mindset, ensuring all decisions—whether at case or portfolio level—keep the customer front of mind and support fair, effective outcomes.

Working hours: This role is available on a part-time, job-share or full-time basis.

Salary: Attractive compensation package depending on experience plus an excellent benefits package.
