The opportunity: A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced financial risk professional to join our UK Risk Team. The role reports to the Head of Financial Risk and Insights, overseeing the risk actuarial teams and the delivery of delegated SM&CR responsibilities from the UK Chief Risk Officer. You will shape and advance our approach for the second line oversight of financial and insurance risk within Zurich’s UK (Life and P&C) businesses. This role is suited for an experienced team leader, with a keen interest in emerging risk trends and a passion for driving change. You will have key influence to enhance our risk culture, risk management, risk reporting, and deliver targeted risk insights. The role requires strong financial and communication skills to support engagement with a broad set of stakeholders across the UK business and Zurich Group.
The team: The Financial Risk and Insights team supports the UK CRO and works with the wider UK Risk team and Zurich Group colleagues to promote a culture of sound risk awareness, support risk identification and mitigation, and provide oversight of management’s delivery of the business strategy, aligned to the risk appetite. The team oversees first line financial risk activity in actuarial, reinsurance, investments, proposition development and pricing, engaging with a broad set of stakeholders.
What will you be doing? As Senior Financial Risk Manager you will:
- Support the Head of Financial Risk and Insights by taking the lead role to shape and oversee the risk actuarial work plan, collaborating with our senior risk actuaries.
- Manage and coach a small team who work with the UK business (Life and P&C) to enhance the assessments of financial and insurance risks, focusing on emerging risk and climate change risk.
- Lead your team to work collaboratively with the UK Risk team to automate and simplify the Risk reporting using data visualisation and analytics tools.
- Guide the UK Risk technical business partnering on financial and insurance risk to support the business manage exposures within tolerances and appetite.
- Support ad hoc assessments of key strategic and change initiatives.
- Lead the CRO-chaired governance meetings on financial risk and model risk.
- Oversee the UK implementation of the Zurich Group Financial Risk Framework and Model Risk Framework, maintaining local UK documentation.
- Maintain the Stress and Scenario Framework, working with the risk, actuarial and underwriting teams to improve the modelling capability and enhance the use of the Zurich Group internal model.
- Be a key senior member of the UK Risk team, providing guidance and support, and collaborating with the wider UK and Group team.
What are we looking for? This role is for an experienced professional with strong business acumen and a good understanding of the UK insurance market and regulations. You must have demonstrable experience of financial risk oversight, preferably within the insurance sector. You will also need to demonstrate:

- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to a broad range of stakeholders and experience of writing reports for senior stakeholders and Boards.
