The opportunity: We are currently seeking an experienced Property & Casualty (P&C) Underwriter to join our experienced and highly successful team of underwriters in Manchester. In this role, you will play a key part in managing and developing an existing portfolio of business, ensuring long-term profitability, retention and sustainable growth. Working closely with brokers and customers, you’ll be responsible for delivering underwriting excellence, identifying opportunities to strengthen relationships and providing tailored solutions that meet our customers' needs. As an experienced Existing Business P&C Underwriter, you’ll use your underwriting expertise and market knowledge to assess renewal and mid-term business, make sound underwriting decisions and contribute to the continued success of our portfolio. Your expertise will help us deliver high-quality insurance products and service while maintaining strong broker partnerships.
Key responsibilities:
- Evaluate, underwrite and manage Existing Business P&C accounts, including renewals and mid-term adjustments.
- Analyse risk exposure and determine appropriate coverage, pricing and underwriting terms.
- Identify opportunities to retain and grow profitable business within the existing portfolio.
- Collaborate with brokers and customers to gather relevant information, negotiate terms and deliver effective underwriting solutions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, industry developments and regulatory changes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key stakeholders to support retention and portfolio growth.
- Monitor portfolio performance and take appropriate action to ensure underwriting profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver exceptional service to brokers and customers, supporting long-term relationship management.
Your skills and experience:
- Proven experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter, with a focus on existing business, renewals or portfolio management.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, underwriting principles and risk assessment techniques.
- Excellent analytical, judgement and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and negotiation abilities.
- Experience of managing broker relationships and delivering excellent customer outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in insurance systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. ACII) are preferred.
- A commercial mindset with a focus on portfolio performance, retention and profitable growth.
