The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to work within our risk engineering business as an Oil & Gas Risk Engineer. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that all risk engineering is technically and commercially viable by providing first‑class customer service and ensuring that all risk engineering policies and standards are clearly defined and implemented. You will be part of a team that provides expert resource to Zurich’s internal teams in underwriting and claims, to customers and to our global risk engineering network on Oil & Gas related Property, Business Interruption, Construction, Machinery Breakdown and Liability/Environmental issues. This is a home‑based position and will require travel to our London office and customer sites internationally. Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part‑time, flexible hours, job share, working from home or compressed hours.
What will you be doing?
- Assist underwriters by assessing risk quality and estimating maximum loss potential for Property Damage, Business Interruption and Liability.
- Carry out site‑based risk engineering surveys of worldwide production facilities, producing clear technical reports for internal or external distribution and providing customers with risk improvement recommendations.
- Assess broker submissions and survey reports to produce desk top risk assessments for other production facilities.
- Support claims validation and investigation processes.
- Provide thought leadership and technical insight on risk features of related industries, including lessons from losses.
- Be conversant with our full risk engineering proposition and work with customers and brokers to identify and develop opportunities to deliver income‑generating risk engineering services.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in engineering (Chemical/ Mechanical preferred).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards.
- Extensive industrial experience in upstream (exploration/production) operations. This should include operational experience of production, maintenance and plant integrity, technical support, etc.
- Experience in wells or commissioning would be considered of interest.
- Ability to produce concise and accurate technical reports in a timely manner.
- The ideal candidate will have existing knowledge of the insurance market and have worked in customer‑facing roles to develop business propositions and deliver growth.
