The Opportunity

Are you looking to broaden your experience and take your development to the next level? Do you enjoy working on a variety of topics and using your technical skills to help shape business decisions? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Property & Casualty (P&C) actuary. Join our Financial Risk and Insights team and play a key role in how we manage and oversee financial and insurance risks. Your expertise will help us find smarter ways to keep our business strong and secure. You’ll gain a holistic view of the Zurich UK P&C business and work with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders. The Financial Risk and Insights team supports the UK Chief Risk Officer and works closely with the wider UK Risk team and Zurich Group colleagues to foster a culture of sound risk awareness, support risk identification and mitigation, and provide oversight of the delivery of the business strategy.

What will you be doing?

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Chief Risk Officer in providing challenge, oversight and risk opinions on reinsurance, reserving, product design and pricing, exposure management, business plan, solvency, and capital utilisation.
  • Oversee the stress and scenario testing and drive improvements in these practices.
  • Review and challenge the company’s financial risk profile and help develop existing Risk Appetite statements and metrics.
  • Take part in risk assessments, including looking at emerging risks and climate change.
  • Contribute to the production of the Own Risk Assessment (ORA) report.
  • Support key strategic and regulatory projects.
  • Contribute to regulatory reporting and respond to ad hoc regulatory requests.
  • Stay up to date with technical expertise, regulations, professional guidance, and deepen your understanding of the UK business and strategy.
  • Build strong relationships across the wider Risk teams, and the wider UK business and Group.

What are we looking for?

You’ll need to be a qualified P&C actuary with at least 3 years of post‑qualification experience. While risk management experience is a plus, what matters most is your enthusiasm for applying your skills in a risk‑focused actuarial role and a range of risk topics.

  • Strong financial skills and business awareness with a solid understanding of the UK market and regulatory environment.
  • An interest in making processes better and a willingness to support automation and innovation.
  • Great attention to detail with an analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication – both written and interpersonal so you can work well with colleagues at all levels across the business, including our Group teams.
  • The ability to influence and build positive relationships.
  • Self‑motivation, strong organisation, and a drive to meet deadlines – even when juggling several things at once.
  • A sense of ownership for your work, including managing expectations and stakeholders.

Benefits

  • 12% defined non‑contributory pension scheme.
  • Annual company bonus.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Opportunities to buy up to an additional 20 days or sell some of your holiday.
  • 28 days holiday a year plus bank holidays, with the option to swap UK bank holidays for culturally or religiously significant days.
  • Three days paid volunteering.
  • Up to 16 weeks’ full pay for maternity, paternity and adoption leave.
  • Income protection and life cover (four times your salary).

Work‑Life Balance & Wellbeing

  • Access to private medical insurance and virtual GP appointments.
  • Discounted gym membership and free flu jab.
  • Support from wellbeing partners and a range of training and development opportunities.
  • Three days of paid volunteering.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

As an inclusive employer, we ensure that all candidates feel comfortable and can perform at their best during the interview. You’ll have the opportunity to let us know of any reasonable adjustment or practical support needed when you apply.
