The opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Trading Underwriter to join our team, specialising across Property, Casualty or Motor lines of business. This is a fantastic opportunity to underwrite both new business and existing accounts, helping us achieve sustainable, profitable growth while building strong relationships with our brokers and customers. You’ll bring a strong technical mindset, sound market awareness and the confidence to make informed, commercially astute decisions. Whether it’s assessing risk, negotiating terms or supporting broker development, you’ll play an important role in delivering high‑quality insurance solutions for our customers.
Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part‑time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full‑time. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you may need.
What will you be doing?
- Underwriting and managing new business and existing accounts across Property, Casualty or Motor.
- Reviewing, analysing and assessing risk submissions to determine appropriate coverage, terms and pricing.
- Conducting research and gathering information to support high‑quality underwriting decisions.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across underwriting and insurance professions to ensure consistent and accurate practices.
- Building and maintaining strong broker and client relationships to support long‑term profitable growth.
- Keeping up to date with market trends, regulatory changes and underwriting best practice.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience underwriting within Property, Casualty and/or Fleet, ideally with exposure to new business.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex information.
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence making informed decisions.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with a collaborative approach.
- Ability to prioritise, manage deadlines and work both independently and as part of a broader team.
- Knowledge of relevant market regulation, guidelines, and underwriting tools/systems.
- A proactive mindset, professional attitude and strong work ethic.
As an inclusive employer we want to ensure that all candidates feel comfortable and are able to perform at their best during the interview. You’ll have the opportunity to let us know of any reasonable adjustment or practical support needed when you apply.
What will you get in return?
Everyone’s different. That’s why at Zurich, we offer a wide range of employee benefits so our people can choose what fits them and their life. Our benefits provide real flexibility so our people can make considered choices and tailor their benefits throughout the year. Our benefits include 12% defined non‑contributory pension scheme, annual company bonus, private medical insurance and the option to buy up to an additional 20 days or sell some of your holiday.
