Working hours: This role is available on a part‑time, job‑share or full‑time basis. Location: The ideal candidate will be based in Birmingham or Manchester, though other UK locations may be considered for experienced applicants on a hybrid working basis. There is a requirement to attend the Birmingham office at least once a month and maintain strong market visibility by meeting with brokers weekly to develop new opportunities and negotiate renewals.

In this market‑facing role, you will be joining the International Hub team, which is based out of our Birmingham office, reporting to business heads in London. Your location can be flexible, with attendance at your base office expected 3 days per week. There will also be regular attendance in Birmingham, typically once per month plus opportunity to visit customers across the UK occasionally. Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part‑time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. What will you be doing? As Senior International Underwriter, you will underwrite and service Multinational Casualty and Property accounts, ensuring compliance with Commercial Insurance guidelines and supporting business objectives. You will drive trading activity, proactively develop and maintain broker relationships to build and retain a strong pipeline, and actively represent Zurich in the market through regular engagement and visibility. As a subject‑matter expert, you will coach and mentor junior underwriters, fostering their technical and trading capabilities.

  • Develop, maintain and lead relationships with brokers in support of business retention and acquisition and work with customers and brokers to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities to build pipeline for growth, and participate in Distribution team meetings as they relate to assigned brokers and/or territory.
  • Evaluation of global risks to assess loss potential, acceptability and to allocate capacity accordingly.
  • Work with and monitor underwriting guidelines, rating tools, insurance laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to and implement agreed technical standards, controls, practices and procedures thereby maintaining integrity of underwriting function.
  • Issue of standard (and where required bespoke) policy wordings.
  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives, Underwriting Service, Distribution, Claims and Zurich Resilience Solutions.
  • Lead the implementation of projects to deliver defined objectives with allocated resources and within required timescales.
  • Promote continuous improvement and process efficiency.
  • Cross‑Sell other lines of business and services to increase the organization's product density with the account and promote long term retention.
