The Opportunity
Delegated Authority is a key part of what we do at Zurich, and as we continue to develop and grow in this area, we’re looking for a Delegated Portfolio Underwriter to join our team. This is an exciting and influential role that plays a vital part in shaping the ongoing success and future growth of our business. Working closely with our Delegated Partners, you’ll use your portfolio management and underwriting expertise to deliver first‑class service to both partners and customers. Our portfolio spans a broad range of niche trades and risks, so you’ll need to be adaptable, curious, and ready to offer creative solutions where needed.
Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part‑time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full‑time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.
What will you be doing?
As a Delegated Portfolio Underwriter, you’ll manage an existing portfolio, build strong relationships with our Delegated Partners, and deliver excellent service and profitable performance. You’ll also support our growth ambitions by helping to identify and deliver new business opportunities. This is a market‑facing role, so strong communication skills, relationship‑building capability, and a genuine passion for doing the right thing for our customers are essential. As a senior member of the team, you’ll take real ownership — driving, analysing, and delivering strong underwriting results across the portfolio. And if you see ways we can work smarter or improve our delegated processes, we’d love you to share your ideas.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management: Manage and monitor the performance, profitability, and governance of your delegated portfolio, taking proactive action where needed.
- Relationship Management: Build strong, collaborative relationships with Delegated Partners and brokers through regular engagement and performance reviews.
- Underwriting: Apply sound underwriting judgement across delegated Property and Casualty business, ensuring decisions align with Zurich standards.
- Supporting New Business: Identify, assess, and help onboard new delegated opportunities that support our growth ambitions.
- Key Stakeholder Management: Work closely with colleagues across underwriting, Claims, Pricing, Risk Engineering, Governance and Compliance to drive consistent portfolio outcomes.
What are we looking for?
- Experience in Delegated Authority or portfolio management.
- Underwriting experience across Property and Casualty lines.
- A strong communicator who is confident making decisions.
- Someone comfortable constructively challenging processes to drive improvement.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent organisational skills with the customer at the heart of every decision.
What will you get in return?
- 12% defined non‑contributory pension scheme.
- Annual company bonus.
- Income protection.
- Life cover – four times your salary.
- 28 days holiday a year plus bank holidays (plus flexibility to swap UK bank holidays for days off of cultural or religious significance).
- Option to buy up to an additional 20 days or sell some of your holiday.
- Three days paid volunteering.
- Up to 16 weeks' full pay for maternity, paternity and adoption leave.
- Access to private medical insurance.
- Virtual GP appointments.
- Discounted gym membership.
- Free flu jab.
- Access to a wealth of support from our wellbeing partners.
