Overview
In this role you will lead the Reconciliations function to ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliation and strong financial controls. You will manage a high‑performing team, build cross‑functional relationships, and drive improvements that increase efficiency and mitigate risk. You’ll oversee end‑to‑end reconciliation processes, from review to evidence retention, while supporting audits and governance. Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Reconciliations team to meet deadlines and accuracy standards
- Oversee end‑to‑end reconciliation process including review, sign‑off, issue management and evidence retention
- Investigate, resolve and escalate reconciling items, balance sheet breaks and control issues
- Maintain robust documentation, audit trails and accounting records per governance requirements
- Produce and analyse management information on reconciliation performance, items, risks and controls
- Build relationships with Finance, Operations, Risk, Compliance and other areas to strengthen controls
- Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation and responses
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase automation and enhance operational effectiveness
- Coach and develop team members to foster accountability and continuous improvement
Key requirements
- Proven experience leading and developing teams in a finance, reconciliation, accounting or operations environment
- Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls, audit requirements and governance frameworks
- Minimum five years' experience in financial services, finance operations or other regulated environment
- Life and pensions, international life assurance, fund accounting or reconciliations experience advantageous
- Demonstrated track record of process improvement, change initiatives and control enhancements
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for complex issues
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and adaptability to new systems and technologies
