The opportunity:

You will be the leader of the Energy, Marine and Construction Claims team, responsible for the operational rigour and technical excellence of a team of 20 people. Succeeding in this role will require you to work effectively with external and internal stakeholders, collaborating with customers, brokers, co-insurers, reinsurers, and service providers to reach pragmatic outcomes. Internal collaboration with colleagues across underwriting, actuarial, finance, and Zurich Resilience Solution, as well as managing relationships with senior stakeholders across the UK business and global Claims management, is essential.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the team in making claims a strategic asset to Zurich, aligned to our Large & Complex Claims strategy of “Claims is what we do, but it is not all that we do”.
  • Combining technical excellence, a solution-oriented mindset, and a focus on prevention and mitigation to maintain our market-leading reputation.
  • Leading the long-term succession plan of the team through proactive performance and talent management, including supporting career and personal development.
  • Focusing time and attention on the external environment, supported by the Claims Commitment, whilst delivering for our internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating role model leadership and creating an environment of coaching, two-way communication and feedback, empowerment, and positive engagement.
  • Enforcing and leading the team response to changes recommended from audit findings and governance reviews.
  • Ensuring adherence to group regulatory requirements, governance procedures, and Group Claims policy.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of leading high-performance teams and positioning the claims function as a key differentiator to support the winning and retention of business. They will have large loss claims experience in the London market and UK domestic market, including international claims, preferably in Energy and Construction lines, and experience in dispute resolution. They will be ACII qualified. You will naturally have strong interpersonal skills and excellent relationship management skills, demonstrating sound commercial acumen in ambiguous situations through effective communication.
