Role
The Domestic Solar PV Roofer is responsible for preparing residential roofs for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
This includes safely accessing roofs, installing mounting systems and roof fixings, carrying out roofing alterations where required, ensuring the roof remains fully weatherproof, and working closely with electrical installation teams to deliver high-quality renewable energy systems.
The successful candidate will have a strong roofing background, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality workmanship while maintaining exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Roof Preparation & Installation
- Install roof mounting systems and fixings for domestic solar PV installations.
- Remove and reinstate roof coverings, including concrete, clay, slate, and composite tiles.
- Ensure all roof penetrations are correctly sealed and weatherproofed.
- Fit roof hooks, flashing kits, mounting rails, and associated hardware in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Carry out minor roofing repairs where required before or during installation.
- Inspect roof structures and report any defects or concerns before work commences.
- Work alongside Solar PV Electricians to ensure efficient installation of complete systems.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Carry out all work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, Working at Height Regulations, and company procedures.
- Correctly use fall protection equipment, ladders, scaffold access, and lifting equipment.
- Complete daily risk assessments and follow approved Method Statements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment.
- Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
- Quality Assurance
- Ensure all roofing work meets company quality standards and manufacturer requirements.
- Protect customers’ properties throughout the installation process.
- Carry out final quality inspections before handing over to the electrical installation team.
- Minimise remedial work by maintaining a right-first-time approach.
- Customer Service
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
- Communicate courteously with customers, explaining work where appropriate.
- Respect customers’ homes by maintaining a clean and tidy working environment.
- Address customer queries professionally and escalate issues where necessary.
- Equipment & Vehicle Management
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order.
- Ensure all equipment is inspected before use.
- Report damaged or defective equipment immediately.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials safely.
Essential Requirements
- Proven roofing experience, ideally within domestic residential properties.
- Experience working safely at height.
- Good understanding of pitched roofing systems, including slate and tiled roofs.
- Ability to install roof mounting systems accurately and safely.
- Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Full UK Driving License.
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous experience installing domestic solar PV roof mounting systems.
- Working at Height certification.
- PASMA or IPAF qualification.
- CSCS Skilled Worker Card.
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Roofing Occupations or equivalent.
- Asbestos Awareness training.
