Job Purpose

To support the Warehouse Manager in leading the day‑to‑day warehouse operation, supervising a team of warehouse operatives ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of goods from receipt through to dispatch maintaining high operational standards, and working hands‑on alongside the team when required.

What You’ll Do

  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all team members follow health and safety procedures and use equipment correctly.
    • Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards or incidents promptly.
    • Support the Warehouse Manager in accident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Supervise daily warehouse activities including goods‑in, putaway, picking, packing, and despatch.
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks to meet service levels and customer expectations.
    • Allocate resources effectively and adjust priorities based on operational demands.
    • Work hands‑on with the team during peak periods or when operationally required.
    • Support audits and stock checks, ensuring high levels of inventory accuracy.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Conduct regular team briefings, 1:1s, and performance reviews to ensure alignment with operational goals.
    • Support succession planning and staff development through mentoring and training initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and team engagement.
    • Encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
  • People Management
    • Supervise and lead a team of warehouse operatives, providing clear direction, coaching, and support.
    • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and company policies.
    • Monitor attendance, performance and conduct.
    • Conduct return‑to‑work interviews, monitor attendance, and manage absence in line with company policy.
    • Support performance management through regular feedback, reviews, and development planning.
    • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety‑conscious working environment.
    • Address personnel issues promptly, escalating to management or HR when appropriate.

Who You Are

Essential

  • Experience in a warehouse or logistics environment, ideally in a supervisory or team leader role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Hands‑on approach with a willingness to work alongside the team when needed.
  • Good understanding of warehouse operations and health & safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Confident in use of IT and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).

Desirable

  • Experience in industries involving boilers, air conditioning, heat pumps, solar, or EV charging products.
  • Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Working Safely or equivalent).
  • Forklift license or experience with material handling equipment (MHE).
