Working closely with Product, Design, Marketing and Backend teams, we deliver fast, scalable and accessible experiences that make a real impact.
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you'll help shape the future of our web platform, building high-performance applications with our current frontend ecosystem. You'll influence architecture, drive engineering best practices and solve complex technical challenges while delivering exceptional customer experiences.
This is a hands-on role with broad technical ownership, spanning technical design, implementation, experimentation, performance optimisation and continuous improvement. You'll also play a key role in advancing our frontend architecture, technical SEO, Core Web Vitals and reusable platform capabilities.
A day in the life:
- Build and evolve customer-facing and internal web applications using Next.js, React, TypeScript and GraphQL, delivering scalable solutions across multiple products and business domains.
- Shape the future of our frontend platform by driving architecture decisions, building reusable components and shared libraries, and contributing to our long-term technical strategy.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Marketing and Backend teams to deliver intuitive, accessible and high-performing user experiences that improve customer outcomes.
- Champion technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, performance and experimentation, using product insights and A/B testing to continuously optimise customer journeys and organic growth.
- Improve the reliability and quality of our platform through observability, monitoring, CI/CD and engineering best practices, proactively identifying issues before they impact customers.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance and knowledge sharing, helping to raise engineering standards and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
About You:
- Strong commercial experience building modern, scalable web applications using React, TypeScript and Next.js, with a solid understanding of frontend architecture and reusable component libraries.
- Deep knowledge of technical SEO, Core Web Vitals and modern rendering strategies (SSR, crawlability, structured data, indexation and semantic HTML), with experience optimising applications for both traditional search engines and AI-powered search.
- Proven ability to deliver measurable improvements in performance, discoverability and user experience, applying web performance best practices, accessibility standards and experimentation/A/B testing.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, SEO, Content and Marketing teams to translate business and growth objectives into scalable engineering solutions.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD, modern software delivery practices and engineering best practices, with a pragmatic approach to balancing technical excellence and business outcomes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical direction, mentor others and drive cross-functional initiatives.
Added bonus:
- Experience with GraphQL and observability tooling such as Honeycomb or Grafana to build, monitor and maintain reliable production applications.
- Building customer acquisition, conversion and growth-focused web experiences, ideally within regulated industries or fintech environments.
- Contributing to platform, enablement or shared engineering teams, developing scalable tooling and capabilities that improve engineering efficiency across multiple products.
At Zopa we value flexible ways of working. We value face-to-face collaboration and a good work-life balance. This hybrid role requires you to come to our London office 2-3 days a week. You'll also have the option of working from abroad for up to 120 days a year! But no matter where you are, we’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need to thrive, both in your work and home life, from day one.
Diversity Statement
Zopa is proud to offer a workplace free from discrimination. Diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds leads to better products for our customers and a unique company culture for our people. We are made up of nearly 50 nationalities, have a DE&I forum made up of Zopians wanting to make a difference and we are proud of our culture where everyone can bring their full self to work. Our approach to DE&I is reflected in our hiring process so please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments.
Our approach to AI in interviews
At Zopa, AI isn't something we're testing out — it's part of how we work every day. As a proud partner of Jobs 2030, we're committed to building AI fluency across our workforce, and we expect Zopians to use AI as part of how they do their jobs. Because of that, we want to be transparent about how we think about AI use during our hiring process.
Behavioural and competency-based interviews: please don't use AI. These conversations are designed to understand you — your experiences, your judgment, and how you've approached real situations. An AI-generated answer can't tell us that. What it can do is get in the way of us finding out whether we're the right fit for each other.
Technical interviews: it depends on the role. Some technical stages actively welcome AI use, others don't. Your Talent Partner will let you know what's expected at each stage. Where AI is part of the assessment, we'll be interested not just in the outcome, but in how you used it – the tools you chose, your reasoning, and the decisions you made along the way.
