Overview
Engineering Manager to lead one of our Manchester-based engineering squads in the Point of Sale tribe. This team powers Zopa\’s retail finance products – making it easy and transparent for customers to access finance at the checkout. You\’ll lead a cross-functional team responsible for building and scaling the platforms that connect Zopa with retailers and marketplaces across the UK. As a team coach and technical leader, you\’ll enable your engineers to thrive while delivering great software that supports millions of customers and merchant partners.
Responsibilities
- Leading a team of engineers focused on building Zopa\’s retail finance product
- Supporting engineers through coaching, 1:1s, career development and goal-setting
- Collaborating closely with Product, Delivery and Commercial to plan and deliver outcomes
- Championing engineering excellence – from clean code to testing, observability and CI/CD
- Improving system reliability and scalability as our merchant footprint grows
- Ensuring quality is built in at every stage of the SDLC
- Bringing a clear sense of purpose, energy and structure to our Manchester teams
- Creating momentum, prioritising clearly and guiding teams through complexity
- Collaborating closely with product managers, delivery leads and other stakeholders
- Caring deeply about software quality and user outcomes

You\’ll lead a cross-functional team responsible for building and scaling the platforms that connect Zopa with retailers and marketplaces across the UK. As a team coach and technical leader, you\’ll enable your engineers to thrive while delivering great software that supports millions of customers and merchant partners.

You\’ll work in a product-focused environment where engineers own their work end-to-end, deploy to production frequently, and see the real-world impact of what you build. You\’ll also get to work with a modern tech stack: Kotlin, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Aurora Postgres and more. We work hybrid, with at least 2 days a week together in our Manchester office.
We value face-to-face collaboration and a good work-life balance. This hybrid role requires you to come to our Manchester office 2-3 days a week. (WeWork, Dalton Place, 29 John Dalton Street, M2 6WF.) You\’ll also have the option of working from abroad for up to 120 days a year!
