As part of our continued expansion of fish diagnostic services, we are looking for a motivated and scientifically minded Junior Molecular Diagnostic Lab Analyst to join our team at the UHI Inverness Campus. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your molecular diagnostic expertise while contributing to a growing and innovative area of animal health.
The Role
As a Junior Molecular Diagnostic Lab Analyst, you will support the delivery of high-quality molecular diagnostic testing within our state-of-the-art PCR laboratory. Working as part of a collaborative laboratory team, you will be involved in:
- Sample reception and processing
- Nucleic acid extraction
- PCR testing
- Results analysis
- Laboratory reporting
- Maintaining accurate quality and equipment records
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and book client samples using our online iWISE system.
- Perform nucleic acid extractions using our robotic extraction system.
- Conduct PCR testing in accordance with departmental SOPs.
- Operate, monitor, troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments.
- Analyse PCR results and contribute to the preparation of client reports.
- Support SOP and HSE documentation and promote Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Maintain accurate sample storage, tracking and documentation.
- Manage laboratory consumables, stock levels and orders.
- Prepare basic solutions and undertake routine laboratory procedures.
- Maintain accurate equipment and process records within our VIS Quality Management System.
- Work in accordance with laboratory quality, biosafety and health.
