Role Description Position summary Reporting to the Associate Director Reference Laboratories UK & Ireland, the UK Quality Manager will carry out the important role of overseeing the Quality Management System for the UK and Ireland reference laboratories. Based at one of the UK sites, the post holder will be required to travel to other sites to undertake duties, including Cork, Ireland. Responsibilities will include training staff on the QMS and topics related to quality, non-conforming event (NCE) management, internal auditing, document control, policy/SOP writing, quality metric compilation/reporting, liaising with key leaders in other parts of the organization (e.g., medical, customer service, operations) and other quality related duties as assigned. The non-conforming event management duties will include triaging and tracking reported non-conforming events and working with all levels of reference lab staff to ensure timely, appropriate and effective investigation and implementation of corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs). The Quality Manager will carry out investigations and formulate/implement CAPAs for non-technical issues as assigned and work with technical staff to ensure appropriate issue resolution. The role will also support in the management of Health and Safety across the reference laboratories, collating data and compiling management reports, document control, and assisting with root cause investigations in collaboration with relevant technical teams and leaders. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Percent of Time (sum of responsibilities should equal to 100%) Triaging, tracking and resolving reported non-conforming events - 40% Training staff on Quality Management System and topics related to quality - 10% Compilation and reporting of quality & safety metrics - 15% Internal auditing, on location in base site and traveling to other UK and Ireland ZRL labs - 20% Writing policies/SOPs and Document Control Duties - 10% Other duties as assigned - 5% Organisational Relationships: The Quality Manager will interact with the Quality Management Team (Associate Director of Operations, Heads of Laboratories, designated veterinary Pathologist), Heads of Laboratories, Laboratory Supervisors, other Operations leaders, customer service team, front line lab staff and colleagues on the Medical Team (including veterinary pathologists and other colleagues on the Quality Team). Education & Experience: A Bachelors degree in a natural science (biology, vet science, chemistry, biochemistry, etc) is required. At least one year on the bench in a veterinary or clinical laboratory required. At least three years' experience in Quality Assurance related role required. Experience in Non-conforming Event Management (investigations, root cause analysis and CAPAs), SOP/policy writing, quality metric development/reporting and internal auditing preferred. Training in systems thinking and/or Just Culture preferred. Certification as ISO auditor and/or ASQ preferred. Technical skills requirements: Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and internet required. Preferred skills: Experience configuring and using compliance software (MediaLab is utilized) Skilled in use of Excel, Power BI and/or other similar software to perform statistical analyses and produce metric reports and dashboards Internal auditing and delivering summary reports Skilled in relationship building and developing a rapport Physical position requirements Onsite role with remote days possible. Sitting at computer for long periods of time. Standing for 1-2 hours when auditing or shadowing. Travel requirements 15-25% (negotiable).
