Our client are a niche ‘Hi-Val’ Freight Forwarder based in Sunbury-on-Thames and are looking for aImport Clerkto join the current Import team, to assist with the smooth running of the department. Working 09:00-17:30 Monday to Friday, including a one hour break each day.
The role ofImport Clerkwill involve, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Monitor Pre-Alerts from foreign agents and raise import files.
- Create records in the ERTS system ready for clearance.
- Handling files from start to finish.
- Ensure all relevant and legal documentation is in place for the Customs Clearance.
- Complete and check customs entries, checking the CPC to be used after receiving instructions from the client.
- Ensure the client file is completed with the release information before delivery is organised.
- Support management with deliveries in the transport department taking into consideration, size, value location and urgency of delivery.
- Support management to ensure that we are meeting the client’s needs.
- Represent the company by demonstrating high levels of customer service and a professional attitude at all times.
- Undertake additional duties, or assist other members of staff, as may be reasonably requested by the Manager or Directors.

The knowledge, skills and experience required from ourImport Clerkis:
Essential
- Have a good knowledge of import procedure codes and various import entries.
- Hold a full UK driving, or be able to easily commute to our Sunbury office.
- Have a good knowledge of the English language both verbal and written.
- The ability to prioritise and organise own workload to tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively with the client and colleagues.
- Be a team player in the import team, as well as working with members of staff across all other departments.
- Sound knowledge of IT – Word, Excel and experience of using a CRM system.
Desirable
- Experience of transporting valuable goods.
- Knowledge of London and the local area.
Due to the nature of the role, there are a number of compulsory checks that must be carried out:
- A criminal record check – basic disclosure, carried out by the Disclosure & Barring Service.
- A full 5 year reference history, with any gaps in employment scrutinised and accounted for.
- A driving licence check.
