About the Team
Our Commercial Finance team is evolving from a traditional reporting and forecasting function into a data-driven strategic powerhouse. We’ve completely ditched the clunky, manual spreadsheets of the past for a warehouse-first approach. Operating at the intersection of Finance and Data Analytics, we use a modern stack (BigQuery, dbt, and Hex) to find the "why" behind our numbers. If you believe finance should be a proactive strategic partner to the business rather than just a reporting function, you'll fit right in.
About the Role & Impact
As our new Commercial Finance Analyst, you’ll be the bridge between raw data, financial health, and commercial action. This is not a traditional corporate finance role. You will spend your days writing SQL queries, building scalable data pipelines, and transforming raw operational data into live, automated financial models in our modern data stack. Reporting is simply our groundwork, not the goal. The critical part is using clean data to guide the decisions we make as a business.
What You Will Do
- Replace manual workbook legwork with robust SQL code, automating recurring financial tasks and reporting so our team can move at lightning speed.
- Own and continuously scale our forecasting models, relying on warehouse data to perform scenario analyses and stress-test strategic plans.
- Partner with Marketing, Ops, and Growth to analyze customer acquisition cost (CAC), lifetime value (LTV), payback periods, and cohort behaviour.
- Translate complex data into clear, concise financial commentary to help non-technical stakeholders (Product Managers, Marketing Leads) make data-driven decisions.
- Act as the "voice of the data"—shaping commercial strategy by telling the real story behind our monthly operational performance.
Who you are
- This is a hybrid data-finance position. An Excel-only approach will not work in this role. We have a dedicated technical loop in our interview process to test SQL capabilities.
- Strong SQL Proficiency (Required): You must be comfortable writing complex SQL queries from scratch (CTEs, window functions, complex joins) to extract and manipulate large datasets from BigQuery.
- Core Finance/Accounting Fundamentals: You have a firm grasp of subscription metrics, unit economics, P&L modelling, and accounting fundamentals (e.g., handling accruals and deferred revenue recognition for multi-month memberships).
- A D2C / Subscription Enthusiast: You understand the unique mechanics of subscription models. You intuitively connect acquisition spend to retention curves, churn, and cohort behaviour.
- Modern Analytics Mindset: You are either already proficient in—or obsessed with mastering—data visualisation and transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Python, Hex) to move beyond static spreadsheets.
- An AI-Forward Operator: You actively leverage modern tools, including LLMs, to streamline workflows, debug queries, and automate the mundane so you can focus on high-value strategic analysis.
- A Storyteller of Complexity: You can take raw, messy transactional databases (like Stripe billing records) and synthesise them into clean financial narratives that make sense to non-finance partners.
Our Hiring Journey
We value your time. We’ve designed a streamlined, 4-step process to get us from "Hello" to "Welcome to the team" as quickly as possible:
- Step 1: Intro chat with Talent Team (High-energy alignment check)
- Step 2: Hiring Manager Interview (Tactical conversation focused on your craft)
- Step 3: The Remote Loop (2 to 4 focused interviews assessing technical and collaboration skills)
- Step 4: The Finish Line (Offer, equity/benefits breakdown, and onboarding)
