Position: Operations Manager – Chemical

Overview of role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the efficient operations of our chemical tanker fleet. The ideal candidate will have sailed to Chief Officer (C/O) or Captain on Chemical Tankers and possess strong shore-based operational experience. In this shore-based role, you will apply your maritime expertise to manage fleet operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and optimal performance across all vessels under your responsibility.

Key responsibilities and primary deliverables
Operations
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the fleet of chemical tankers, ensuring all vessels under your responsibility adhere to company policies, industry regulations and safety standards and Charter Party terms.
- Ensure that all voyages are conducted with the primary regard to the safety of crew, vessel, and protection to the environment.
- Minimise the operational costs and controlling vessels performance to ensure overall performance of the voyages are in line with Owners and Charterers expectations.
- Provide operational guidance to Masters and Officers, ensuring clear communication of all required information, voyage instructions, Charter Party terms and any special instructions.
- Provide expert advise on navigation, mooring, cargo operations, approving stowage plans and provide guidance on tank cleaning, in addition to supporting optimal fleet performance.
- Review and evaluate any operational issues that arise, providing guidance and solutions to minimise downtime and operational delays.
- Act as main point of contact between the fleet and the shore-based management team, providing timely updates and reports on operational matters. Ensuring all parties are continuously updated on voyage orders and vessel itineraries.
- Ensure Charterers adequately plan bunker supplies in accordance with company guidelines.
- Check freight/hire invoices on a regular basis and upon delivery to Charterers.
- Negotiate Agency fees and appoint agents as necessary.
- Conduct regular audits of fleet operations and vessel performance to ensure ongoing compliance and identify opportunities for optimisation, efficiency improvements and cost control.
- Support the investigation of any operational incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and safety lessons are learned to prevent reoccurrence.
- Collaborate with other departments (technical, crewing, safety and commercial) to ensure the operational performance of the fleet meets company expectations.
- Actively promote and enforce the company safety culture and standards abroad all vessels, collaborating closely with QHSSE.

- Attending ships as required
Emergency Response Procedures
- Assist as part of the emergency / crisis management team and make appropriate requirements.
Marine Compliance
- Stay informed of industry regulations and best practices, ensuring fleet procedures are updated and operations align with the emerging standards.
File / Report Management
- Ensure that all required documentation is up to date and compliant with international regulations.
- File and maintain all voyage correspondence.
Skills profile
Relevant experience & education
- Senior Officer – Chief Officer (C/O or Captain) on Chemical Tankers.
- At least 2-3 years of relevant shore-based experience in an operations role.
- Strong understanding of Chemical Tanker operations, including optimising vessel performance, interpreting Charter Party terms, managing cargo operations, navigation, stowage and ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and standards and industry best practice.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with vessel crews and shore-based management.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to provide clear, actionable guidance on operational matters.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Ability to assess and resolve operational challenges efficiently, with a focus on safety and cost-effectiveness.
