We are currently recruiting for an experienced Procurement Manager to join a growing and established business within the security and fire systems sector. Based at the company’s Reading office, this is a key position responsible for overseeing procurement, supplier management, and stock control across projects, small works, and service operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring materials are available, costs are controlled, and operational delivery runs smoothly.
Working closely with Projects, Service, Finance, and Technical teams, you will manage the full supply chain lifecycle while driving efficiency, performance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Procurement & Supply Management
- Manage all procurement activities across projects, small works, and service
- Source materials and equipment in line with technical specifications and operational requirements
- Place and track orders efficiently, ensuring cost control and timely delivery
- Coordinate with internal teams to align procurement with project timelines
- Stores & Stock Control
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the stores function
- Maintain accurate stock levels and inventory control
- Ensure all goods are checked, receipted, and allocated correctly
- Manage stock takes, returns, faulty items, and inventory discrepancies
- Ensure the stores environment is organised, compliant, and efficient
- Supplier & Supply Chain Management
- Manage supplier relationships and performance
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements
- Conduct regular supplier reviews and maintain pricing data
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks
- Commercial & Cost Control
- Support margin delivery through effective procurement practices
- Monitor material costs and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure accurate pricing and purchasing aligned with budgets
- Work with Finance to validate supplier invoices and resolve discrepancies
- Planning & Coordination
- Align procurement schedules with project and service requirements
- Coordinate deliveries to engineers and sites
- Communicate lead times, delays, and risks to internal teams
- Process, Systems & Compliance
- Maintain accurate procurement and stock records within internal systems
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, H&S, and audit requirements
- Drive improvements across procurement, logistics, and stock processes
- Leadership & Reporting
- Oversee procurement and stores activities
- Support training and development within the function
- Provide regular reporting on procurement performance and stock levels
- Escalate risks and supply issues to senior management
- Proven experience in procurement, supply chain, or stores management
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost, quality, and efficiency
- Experience working within engineering, construction, or technical environments (security/fire highly desirable)
- Strong organisational and coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience managing suppliers and negotiating pricing
- Good systems knowledge and attention to detail
- Office-based role in Reading
