We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fire & Security Service Engineer to join a well-established engineering team supporting critical infrastructure sites (HMP contracts) across Kent, Sussex and the wider South East region. This is an excellent opportunity to join a business with long-term contracts, strong technical support and a stable pipeline of work across secure custodial environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining life safety and security systems across a portfolio of high-profile sites.

The Role

Working as part of a dedicated service team, you will be responsible for the service, maintenance and fault-finding of a wide range of fire and security systems across multiple prison establishments throughout the South of England. The team currently supports 48 prisons located around the M25 corridor, with the majority of work focused across Kent and Sussex. Due to the nature of the contracts, engineers must be comfortable working within secure, controlled environments and willing to travel when required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Reactive fault finding and repairs
  • System testing and compliance inspections
  • Identification of remedial works and system improvements
  • Emergency call-out attendance when required
  • Accurate completion of service reports and certification
  • Supporting compliance with industry standards and company procedures
  • Maintaining excellent customer relationships across all sites

Systems Experience Required

We are looking for engineers with experience across a range of fire and security systems, including:

  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Intruder Alarm Systems
  • CCTV Systems
  • Access Control Systems
  • IP-Based Security Systems

Engineers with experience across both fire and security disciplines are highly desirable, although candidates with a strong bias in either discipline will be considered.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years' experience within the Fire & Security industry
  • Strong service, maintenance and fault-finding background
  • Good knowledge of current fire and security standards and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Positive attitude and strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel throughout the South East region as required
  • Comfortable working within secure and controlled environments

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence with a clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain EL1 Security Clearance
  • FIA Level 3 BS 5839-1 Fundamentals
  • ECS FESS Gold Card (or equivalent)
  • IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent)
  • Enhanced Security Screening (BS7858)

Desirable

  • FIA Level 3 Advanced Fire Detection & Alarm qualification
  • FESS Level 3 NVQ (or working towards)
  • Experience working within prisons, MOD, government or other high-security environments
  • Knowledge of networked and IP-based systems
  • Manufacturer-specific product training
