Job Title: Project Engineering Lead (Systems)

About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Lead to enhance their engineering leadership capabilities. This role is a critical part of the engineering delivery team, working closely with the Project Manager and System Design Authority to ensure the successful execution of engineering activities.
As a Project Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team, managing the delivery of engineering work within agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in complex engineering projects and experience in work package management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver project objectives.
- Oversee and coordinate engineering activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and System Design Authority to align engineering work with project goals.
- Develop and maintain engineering plans , identifying dependencies, risks, assumptions, and opportunities.
- Manage engineering estimation , resource allocation, and workload planning.
- Support design gate reviews , from initial bid through to full-scale production readiness .
- Implement and maintain configuration management and change control processes.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project success.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading engineering teams on complex projects .
- Strong background in systems engineering , with an understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines .
- Experience in defence projects or other highly regulated industries.
- Expertise in managing projects from requirements elicitation through to production .
- Ability to create structured engineering plans and manage project dependencies and risks.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of configuration management and change control processes .
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working within public sector procurement or government contracts.
- Familiarity with industry-standard engineering tools and methodologies .
- Professional certifications in systems engineering, project management, or a related field .
