Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities – What You’ll Be Doing

As a Mechanical Design Engineer , your expertise will be pivotal in designing, developing, and improving mechanical and composite products within an advanced engineering environment. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Designing innovative mechanical and composite products for aerospace and defence applications using CATIA v5 (CPD & CPM) .
2. Providing technical leadership and mentorship , sharing expertise with junior engineers.
3. Optimising product designs to ensure compliance with industry standards, budgets, and timescales.
4. Working within a product lifecycle management system , ensuring seamless integration across projects.
5. Identifying and implementing design improvements , supporting root cause analysis and lean methodologies.
6. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
7. Performing check signatory activities to maintain high-quality engineering output.

Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements – What You’ll Need to Succeed

To excel in this role, you’ll need a strong background in mechanical and composite design within aerospace, defence, or a related industry . Key skills include:

1. Extensive experience with CATIA v5 , specifically CPD and CPM .
2. Strong understanding of composite product design , ideally within aerospace or marine applications .
3. Expertise in geometric tolerancing and tool design for composite materials .
4. Experience in constructing plybooks and optimising composite manufacturing processes.
5. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities , with a pragmatic approach to challenges.
6. Ability to work within a highly regulated environment , ensuring compliance with MOD security standards .
