Job Description

We have a current opportunity for an Infrastructure Director on an inside IR35 contract basis. The position will be based in London 2/3 days per week with travel to the construction site in Suffolk a couple of times a month. Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference?

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment.

When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050. We have a fantastic opportunity for an Infrastructure Director to join our vibrant team at Sizewell C. Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

The Sizewell C Civil Works Programme drives the critical path of the project, is the dominant programme for the first six years of the project and is a critical contributor to the project delivery for the full lifecycle. The Infrastructure Director will provide leadership in respect of Enabling & Earthworks / Marine & Tunnelling / Permanent Roads & Networks, which form part of the £9bn Civil Works Programme, ensuring delivery to Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost.

The role reports to the SZC Civil Works Programme Director and supports their responsibilities for the direction and leadership of all activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of the Civil Works Programme (i.e., delivery of all engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning activities to safety and quality requirements, and in accordance with the overall Project schedule).

The Infrastructure Director will provide SZC line management oversight for the Section Heads of Delivery and Senior Project Managers, in Enabling & Earthworks, Marine & Tunnelling and Permanent Roads & Networks, working closely with the Deputy Programme Director & Owner Interface Director. This role will be a key part of the Civil Works Programme leadership team and will form part of the Cabinet structure.

The Skills

You’ll need to demonstrate strong leadership and management skills, including engineering management, programme and project management, schedule and financial management, change management, and facilitation, all while maintaining a clear focus on safety and regulatory compliance. You’ll possess excellent leadership, management, organisation, presentation, influencing, and facilitation skills, alongside strong numerical and analytical abilities.

A degree in civil engineering, construction, or a related field is ideal, and while nuclear sector experience isn’t essential, a solid knowledge of the nuclear industry is necessary. Knowledge of CDM Regulations is important, and experience with major infrastructure projects with 15+ years within this environment (but not necessarily as a senior manager) is key. You’ll have experience working in high-stakes, complex infrastructure projects and managing multiple stakeholders, with a solid understanding of working within a heavily regulated environment.

Rullion celebrates and supports and is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for both employees and applicants.
