Job Description

We are seeking a NEBOSH qualified Health and Safety Manager with 5+ years experience within FMCG, working along with the Senior team at our bakery in Wigston, Leicestershire.

Key Tasks include:

  1. To ensure the site’s compliance with all aspects of the Company H&S Policy and associated procedures in the UK and within the group requirements and provide advice, guidance, support to the team; providing coaching and training as necessary.
  2. To develop, implement and monitor the Health & Safety policy.
  3. To support the environmental plan and environment Manager.
  4. To promote Health & Safety awareness and ensure all Health & Safety functions are completed.
  5. To ensure risk assessments and SSOW, Lotto, RAMS contractors’ control are in place and are reviewed regularly.
  6. To prepare Health & Safety statistical performance reports (KPI’s) and drive improvement in the H&S key performance indicators.
  7. To instigate action plans following incidents, accidents, near misses or changes in legislation.
  8. To receive and record accident and near miss data, ensuring robust root cause investigation and corrective & preventative action planning and assist Managers in the investigation of accidents.
  9. Facilitate and lead the site’s H&S Committee.
  10. To manage the safety observation program and carry out frequent Health & Safety audits (CATS).
  11. To ensure the provision of clear and relevant Health & Safety information.
  12. To lead in conjunction with line management, initiatives designed to improve commitment at all levels to continuously improve standards of HSE to benefit site performance.
  13. Identify opportunities to drive improvement in Group H&S processes with the site leadership team, support the continued improvement in employee engagement.
  14. Work with the site’s HR Manager, ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  15. Work with the site’s Trainer, ensure all employees and agency workers receive the required HS&E training.
  16. To work with the group HS&E/ engineering to deliver capital and other project initiatives ensuring projects’ compliance with regulations.
  17. To provide analysis and reporting to allow for accurate and efficient annual budgeting.
  18. Responsibility for site safety/security implementation (CCTV, fob access etc.).
  19. To liaise with the HSE and Environment Agency and other enforcement agencies on all matters.
  20. Responsible for managing the fire control systems/fire ammonia safety.
  21. To form part of the site ‘food defence’ team and crisis management team.
  22. To oversee First Aid provision.
  23. Be an active member of the site’s crisis management team.
  24. Monitor insurance inspections and ensure compliance is maintained.
  25. To ensure statutory dust and noise level exposures are regularly recorded and actions taken.
  26. Be the site’s primary liaison with Health & Safety Executive, NHS, Fire & Rescue Services and other regulatory bodies and providers in relation to health, safety incidents.
  27. Contribute to the Group H&S Committee, including the provision of relevant reports/data to support the H&S process.
  28. Participate in the group cross audit process so will be required to travel internationally and in the UK.
