Job Description

GIS Technical Architect | Outside IR35

ArcGIS | Earth Observation (EO) | Public Sector

SR2 has been engaged on a new project for a prestigious consultancy across multiple roles for a public sector department. This role is pivotal to supporting the end client and will involve client and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Architecture: Collaborate with clients and teams to create robust GIS and software architectures that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Solution Alignment: Ensure consensus on designs, technology choices, and delivery approaches with stakeholders.
  • Expert Guidance: Provide GIS and geospatial technology expertise to both internal and client teams.
  • Implementation Oversight: Maintain alignment between solution delivery and architectural vision across multiple increments.
  • Technical Representation: Act as a key voice in governance forums, such as Technical and Design Authorities.
  • Best Practices & Standards: Influence and drive the adoption of GIS and architecture best practices company-wide.
  • Engineering Leadership: Mentor team members, promote knowledge sharing, and contribute to software engineering excellence.
  • Capability Growth: Support recruitment efforts and contribute to internal training initiatives like InformedACADEMY.
  • Industry Engagement: Stay updated on geospatial innovations, participate in events, and integrate new advancements into projects.

Skills / Experience

  • Experience integrating and modernising legacy GIS platforms and data stores.
  • Skilled in developing transitional roadmaps for geospatial solutions.
  • Expertise in designing architectures for geospatial data science, EO data, and Machine Learning.
  • Ability to assess and improve geospatial systems using structured frameworks (e.g., Well-Architected Frameworks).
  • Experience designing architectures for handling sensitive data, including PII.
  • Strong commercial awareness to optimize solution design and delivery.
  • Ability to manage multiple GIS projects, ensuring alignment and quality.
  • Relevant professional accreditations/certifications at an advanced level.
  • Understanding of Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice in public sector geospatial projects.

This role will be outside IR35, remote and open on rates DOE.
