Job Description
Position : Engineering Manager
Location : Bradford, West Yorkshire
Sector : Electronics (hardware and software)
Salary : Very negotiable according to experience but likely to be in the £60,000-£90,000 range
Tenure : Full time permanent
Hybrid : No, as Engineering Manager you will be expected to be on site

The Role
- To manage and lead engineering teams to meet goals, quality, and cost objectives
- Creating project plans to meet the goals required for new products or designs
- Form teams and assign duties to maximise the efficiency of the engineering function
- Lead on R & D projects
- Provide clear and concise progress reports to the Group Engineering Manager and the local Senior Leadership team
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for the Engineering team(s)
- Directs teams to achieve assignments by providing leadership to the Engineering teams or other group of employees as required, assigning tasks and checking work at frequent intervals to ensure engineering & production goals are met within organization goals of budget, time requirements and high level of quality.
- Manage engineering resources to ensure all present and future products and services are of high quality.
- Leading professional staff and may supervise semi-skilled employees which include some or all of the following: assemblers, technicians, operators and admin support, providing guidance to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
- Ensure that departments within the organization reach goals within budget and a high level of quality.
- Interacts with functional peer groups regarding exchange or presentation of information.
- Determines work schedules and overtime (if applicable) and allocation of resources and equipment. Resolves problems as they occur.
- Pursues new ways to improve the efficiency of engineering development/production. Develops, plans, and administers procedures. Recommends changes to leadership groups. Coordinates, develops, and implements standard operating procedures for functional area.
- Liaise with department supervisors or leads to determine status of assigned projects.
- Prepares reports for chief engineer, site director and HR as required.
- Identifies obstacles to achieving business goals and provides solutions or ideas of discussion
- Works to avoid erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results that may cause scrap, rework, use of excessive overtime, and/or delays in schedules.
- Prepares and presents budgetary recommendations for equipment, product or team development
- Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at various management levels.
About You
- Degree Qualified as a minimum in Electronics Engineering or very similar
- Masters or PhD qualification beneficial
- Experience of R & D in an electronics arena
- Strong understanding of both hardware and software
- Production and / or manufacturing experience is
- Strong people manager
- Commercially aware
- Understanding of design for manufacture and lean manufacturing
- RF experience is a bonus
- NPI / NPD / Testing experience will be required
