Job Summary
The Inspection Technician is responsible for identifying necessary vehicle service and performing the repair, service, and/or maintenance work. Minimal experience required. Great growth and career opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Perform Pennsylvania State Safety Inspections and Emissions Inspections.
- Review Repair Order Requests and make visual inspections of vehicles to determine the extent of service requirements and materials needed. Make diagnoses by performing 32-point courtesy checks. Examine fluid samples, note all physical damage and review customer complaints/requests. Use Mitchell Repair, All-Data and service manuals to ascertain technical information.
- Drive customers’ vehicles onto hoist or jack in preparation for inspection, tire rotation, and LOF maintenance.
- Inspect tire tread depth, wear conditions, air pressure, and reset TPMS positions as required following the tire rotation process.
- Inspect brakes for wear conditions and remaining pad depth.
- Inspect all attrition components of the vehicle, including but not limited to belts, hoses, wipers, light bulbs, linkages, chassis components such as ball joints, struts/shocks, and bushings.
- Inspect battery for corrosion and adequate cranking amperage utilizing a current reporting type battery tester.
- Perform standard oil and lubrication services and dispose of used fluids according to requirements.
- Perform tire and custom wheel installations.
- Perform tire rotation or minor maintenance services.
- Present findings to sales associate team for estimation and presentation to the consumer for additional services.
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Pennsylvania Inspection and Emissions License.
- High school graduate or comparable vocational training.
- 12+ months of vehicle maintenance and repair experience.
- Must have knowledge of non-technical tire and auto service processes and procedures. Knowledge of systems software pertaining to automotive servicing.
- Experience with Mitchell Repair and All-Data.
- 2+ years of experience in a full-service garage or dealership.
- Knowledge of tire and lubrication requirements including use of wheel balancers, tire specifications, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, and lubrication specifications.
