Job Description

Professional Quantity Surveyor

As a Quantity Surveyor (QS) / Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. You will work closely with project teams to ensure that costs are controlled, contracts are managed effectively, and that projects are delivered on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction contracts, cost management, and risk assessment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Cost Management: Prepare and manage project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts. Ensure accurate costing and effective cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  2. Tendering and Procurement: Assist with preparing tender documents, contracts, and bills of quantities. Evaluate bids, negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and manage procurement.
  3. Contract Administration: Manage contracts, including JCT, NEC, or other standard forms of contract, ensuring compliance and effective dispute resolution.
  4. Valuations and Payments: Conduct regular valuations of work completed and prepare payment applications. Manage interim payments, final accounts, and ensure timely payments to subcontractors.
  5. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor project progress to ensure potential risks are managed proactively.
  6. Project Reporting: Prepare regular financial reports for senior management and stakeholders, including cash flow projections and cost analyses.
  7. Change Management: Assess the cost impact of any design or construction changes and negotiate with contractors to minimise impact on budget and schedule.
  8. Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS, CIOB, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
  3. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor (QS) or Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), ideally within the specific industry: residential, commercial, infrastructure, etc.
  4. Strong knowledge of construction contracts (JCT, NEC, etc.) and procurement processes.
  5. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Proficient in using QS software and other relevant tools.
  7. Willing to travel to cities around London (within a 1-hour radius).
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing project costs and risks.
