We have an immediate contract requirement for a Metering Manager to work for our market leading renewable energy client. This is expected to last at least 12 months and will be based up to 50% of the working week at our client’s central London head office.
As a Metering Manager, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end metering lifecycle, including installation, maintenance, performance monitoring, and compliance with industry regulations. You will work closely with internal teams, third-party suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure metering systems operate efficiently and provide a seamless experience for customers, acting as the subject matter expert for metering within our clients UK operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy
- Act as Metering and communications subject matter expert within our clients UK operation and support regional teams with the construction of their projects.
- Maintain the metering requirements and Standards for our clients construction projects and maintenance operations.
- Ensure our requirements are compatible with internal processes including commercial, operations, asset management, and legal requirements.
- Provide expert knowledge in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AIM).
- Support the projects teams at initial design stages to offer advice on the selection of hardware, controls and metering equipment to ensure improved levels of reliability and maintainability, designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment and software as required.
- Implement and continually review the metering strategy to ensure business needs, both current and future are maintained and developed.
- Responsible for the relationship management of the metering contracts.
- Collaborate in the development of medium-term maintenance strategies and derivation of maintenance concepts for the metering assets.
- Provide leadership in the market and influence the industry and key drivers – policy consultations, technical guideline and standard consultations, etc.
- Operations
- Participate in regional planning processes for major maintenance operations.
- Establish and manage a reporting system on metering performance back to the business.
- Provide metering training programme for our clients engineering and operational teams.
- Review acceptance tests and commissioning of metering systems and equipment.
- Responsible for the implementation of the HPAN register and maintaining the metering assets central database.
- Support the project team with the commissioning of the AMR equipment and act as an escalation point for any AMR issues.
- Manage warranty information for our metering assets and lead any warranty claims.
- Collate records and report nationally on the operational performance of our metering assets.
- Compliance
- Ensure our client is compliant with the Heat Network Metering and Billing Regulations and Heat Network technical assurance scheme.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, regulations, technical integrity and quality, including required authority approvals.
- Ensure that maintenance and orderly filing of documents relevant to metering are maintained with the operational Regions.
- Compile metering data for reporting internally and to external parties (e.g. regulators, auditors).
Qualifications and Experience
- Engineering degree qualified or hold a formal Electronics/controls qualification such as Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent recognised training.
- 5 years plus experience working with metering in the utilities sector and operational environments.
- Experience in network infrastructure, architecture, and administration.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

- Demonstrated experience and good understanding of operational requirements from commercial and technical point of view.

- Risk management – strong understanding of commercial and technical risks and how it impacts the business.
- Good understanding of customer needs and customer types (local authorities, developers, commercial customers) and their drivers.
- Excellent engineering skills with good understanding of commercial approach, risks and challenges.
- Good knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Strong knowledge of zero carbon solutions and policy trends.
