Salary: £40,000 – £60,000

Capgemini Engineering is looking to recruit a number of mechanical design engineers. As a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience within the space industry, you will be fundamental to our ability to deliver to the customer and client. Our customer expectations are high; as such we are looking for adaptive, driven people to deliver on time to the required quality.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will initially be required to work on-site at the client’s office in Stevenage. Thereafter, you will have opportunities to work remotely, hybrid, and full-time on-site for future projects. You will be working with the latest tools, 3DEXPERIENCE and in-house client tools that have been developed to provide a range of exciting technical solutions.

Your Role

You will be a mechanical design engineer working on very high-profile projects. You will use creative problem-solving skills, work in a team environment, and be comfortable communicating clearly and efficiently throughout varying levels of both the customer and Capgemini Engineering businesses.

Other key responsibilities include:

1. 3D modelling and 2D drafting using CAD packages
2. Applying manufacturing and quality specifications and assigning notes
3. Identifying and communicating potential design problems to the rest of the team
4. Liaising with the design team and proposing new concepts and improvements
5. Work within a team that collectively is responsible for end-to-end spacecraft structure sub-system throughout the design.
6. Establish technical definition of the spacecraft structure sub-system or component as part of the overall system.
7. Establish interfacing components and sub-assemblies.
8. Continuously monitor progress, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues for the sub-system and component.
9. Use standard product development processes for the sub-system and component to meet the overall program needs.
10. Create 3D models, drawings, and documents for satellite integration.
11. Support throughout the life cycle of the project.
12. Producing reports and presentations to document work.
13. Export control awareness.
14. Ensuring compliance with the Capgemini QMS in the delivery of projects by the team.

Your Profile

1. A strong engineering background and/or relevant engineering degree
2. Knowledge of spacecraft environment and space structures, tools, and materials to deliver structural concept and ultimately design verification.
3. 3D modelling and 2D drafting experience
4. Good experience with 3DX or Catia V5 would be considered.
5. Knowledge of mechanical design principles, including GD&T.
6. Producing interface control documents.
7. Detail/assembly engineering drawing appreciation (Frontier, assembly, component part drawings).
8. Proactive attitude and ability to communicate and report with a good level of verbal and written English
9. Ability to work well in a team and individually
10. Ability to work quickly and accurately to follow client needs
11. Excellent communication skills with a good level of verbal and written English.
